Music Festival of Saint-Riquier
classical music

"Music is perhaps the unique expression of what might have been – had we not invented language, the formation of words, the analysis of ideas – communication between souls" Marcel Proust.

The theme of this, our 27th festival, is Time: that of musicians, actors, scientists and writers, each presenting their own appropriation of Time with passion, energy and emotion.

Marcel Proust so eloquently presented time in his work "In Search of Lost Time" as a magnificent transcription of the powerful and universal emotions conveyed by classical music. Actors Michael Lonsdale and Didier Sandre, writers Jean-Yves Tadié and Jean-Michel Nectoux, cinematographer Véronique Aubouy, journalist Olivier Bellamy and an cast of brilliant musicians will take audiences on an emotional voyage of discovery through time, inspired by the works of this great writer.

We'll be joined on our travels by two great figures of the scientific community, who share a common passion for classical music: astrophysicist Hubert Reeves, who'll narrate the opening concert dedicated to the Seasons (accompanied by the festival's chamber orchestra and a cast of talented musicians), and physicist Etienne Klein, who'll present an poetic and philosophical exploration of the question "Does time pass?"

1811-2011: Bicentennial of the birth of Franz Liszt. Pascal Amoyel, François-Frédéric Guy and Nicholas Angelich pay tribute to this Hungarian pianist - a virtuoso whose visionary genius inspired such pillars of classical music as Wagner, Debussy and Ravel.

And lastly, we'll leave room for improvisation, and the creation of the moment, in the company of jazz musicians Dimitar Bodurov and Renaud Garcia-Fons, organist Pierre-Adrien Charpy, singer Albin de la Simone, together with an inspiring encounter between the Kronos Quartet and London-based DJ Gabriel Prokofiev: grandson of the renowned Russian classical composer Serge Prokofiev.

With performances spanning the age of baroque music to modern French variety, join us to experience the magic of these exceptional artists, be it for duration of a concert, a reading, or a song.
